RanchHand Corgi News

With the recent discovery of the mutated gene responsible for Degenerative Myelopathy (see information links listed below) a DNA test is being offered through the Orthopedic Foundation of Animals (OFA) licensed by the University of Missouri. (This is the SAME gene that causes ALS, Lou Gehrigs Disease,in people) The test will provide one of three results for breeders testing their dogs;

1.) CLEAR - dog does NOT HAVE the mutated gene, therefore, cannot pass it on or get the disease.

2.) CARRIER - dog has one copy of the mutated gene and can pass it on but NOT get the disease.

3) "AT RISK" - dog has two copies of the gene and stands a risk of actually developing the disease as well as passing it on to offspring. An "At Risk" test result, however, does not guarantee the dog WILL develop the disease. Research is continuing, hoping to discover what "triggers" the gene to cause the disease to develop.

We are in an ongoing process to test all of our breeding stock. We will post the results as they are released. At that time if we need to contact previous puppy buyers of possible genetic issues we will do so.

We will do our part to make the best breeding decisions to not produce a dog with both genes at risk to develop this horrid disease. DM robs our corgis of many years of quality of life, changes the lifestyle of the owner and, eventually, breaks our hearts when our beloved's can no longer go on.

Family Raised Corgis

We are responsible Pembroke Welsh corgi breeders with two locations; one in Texas and one in the heart of the Midwest.

Our goal is to raise quality AKC Pembroke Welsh corgi puppies while placing extreme emphasis on raising happy and healthy pets that will become a part of your family. We raise our puppies in our homes as part of our family; they will come to you very well socialized. I work with them from the beginning. So they will be socialized with many people and many different animals.

At the Texas Location:

The Texas location is ran by Chance & Jo Ann Farmer.   We have 2 females we are currently breeding, Bailey & Jackie. They are both tri-colored females with big personalities.

We also have a red & white female named Aggie that we are adding to our breeding program with great hopes of her litters in the future.  We have 1 stud dog his name is Leonardo the Masterpiece and that is just what he is a masterpiece.  He is a black headed tri with a lot of bold white markings. We have recently raised a future stud dog prospect named Apollo.  He is a red headed tri with good white markings.

At the Missouri Location:

My parents, Brad & Julie Tummons own and operate the Missouri Location.  We have been raising corgis for many years now in Missouri and have the blessing of using them on the cattle ranch on a daily basis.

We are currently breeding five females; Annie, Jazzi, Lynnette, Lil Pooh and Angel Face.  We have one retired female her name is Dakota and she is a Black Tri.  She is the mother of Leonardo the Masterpiece.  We also have three male stud dogs; Max, LT and Barkley.  Max and LT are Black Tri's. Barkley is red & white.

Our puppies come to you with all vaccinations current, dewormed and with a health guarantee. We prefer to hand deliver our puppies to their new families and establish a working friendship for future purchases and referrals.
WE DO NOT SHIP OUR PUPPIES!
We do require cash for payment at the time of sell.  I will hold your spot on the waiting list for half of the purchase price as a deposit, and the deposit can be made by check or cash.
(All checks made out to Jo Ann Farmer)

With the convenience of having two locations we are better able to serve our demand for our puppies. We will be having litters at both locations throughout the year. If you are on a waiting list and would like a puppy from either location we will be happy to make the arrangements to get the puppy to you.  We enjoy the traveling involved to get the puppies.  With there being a large distance between our locations the corgis are another way for our family to stay more in touch with each other and meet more often.
